Krot of Kans HET NIEUW-GRIJS, THE NEW-GRAY

Invited by Krot of Kans
a project commissioned by CBK Zeeland

During a 3 week stay in the parish Oostburg, South Netherlands, this
book was created. It shows a research about the population shrinkage,
which is manly originated by the obsolescence of this region.

The area is well known as a holiday destination and for its culinary
qualities. It has a beautiful nature and is close to the beach. Despite
these qualities the economy and the population decrease and the future
hair color seams to become natural gray. What does that mean for a
small village? How can we protect the quality of living? I found that
stimulating the bond between the inhabitants might be the key to preserve
the community. Neighbors have to get more responsibilities for each
other. The social structure has to expand from the family to the district.
Empty houses could be shared to organize workshops, gatherings ore sport
activities. The vacancy creates space to share and to socialize.
